2008 Inaugural Central Illinois All-Truck Show
submitted by Carl Ham

Trucks of all sizes, colors and decades came from as far as the Quad Cities to participate in an all-truck show Sunday, September 7, 2008 in Peoria Illinois. A 1925 Chevrolet fire truck and a modern-day maroon 18-wheeler cab were among 75 trucks gathered in the Jim McComb Chevrolet dealership lot. “Oil and gas just run in my blood,” says Don Reglin of Grand Detour, in town Sunday for an all-truck show at Jim McComb Chevrolet. Reglin has entered about 18 truck shows this year and said everything but the tires are original on his 1964 Ford F-100. Reglin is a member of the Slick 60’s Club and said he drives the truck all the time. Only allowing trucks made the event unique, show organizer Carl Ham said. "Nobody has an all-truck show," Ham said of what he hopes becomes an annual event. "There might be a truck section in a car show, with 1-2 classes, but to have an all-truck show is unique to this area."
The show, sponsored by the dealership, provided 20 different classes with over 70 trophy’s awarded to participants. Over 70 door prizes totaling $1400.00 were also distributed to the participants. A professional car show photographer (Hot Rods To Go – Bill Moldenhauer, Brookfield, IL) documented all the trucks attending, a DJ Sound service (3D Sound featuring Dave & Susan Palmer, Dixon, IL) played music and announced the event winners, and several food and snack vendors were on hand to feed the participants and large crowd of spectators viewing the trucks. A charity 50/50 raffle drawing produced $260.00 which was donated to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital of Illinois in Peoria. Jim Kearfott of El Paso entered his cherry red 1948 Chevy pickup. He said he doesn't come out for the awards, but for the camaraderie. "We come for the fun," Kearfott said. "If you win, and get to take home a plaque, that's a plus." "It's an old farm truck. Every farmer in the country had one of these in the '40s," he said. "But what we've tried to do is take an old farm truck and make it perfect because we know other people will be here scrutinizing it." Kearfott, who's been going to auto shows for more than a decade, said he was impressed with the show's turnout, for a first-time event. "It'll naturally grow every year," he said. Matt McComb, a manager for the Chevrolet dealership, said, "At one point we weren't sure if we'd have enough room for everybody. But it worked out, and it's been great. We will definitely do this again next year.”
